Kenya

Hells Gate National Park, Naivasha, Kenya

During our Round the World trip, we took a spin through east Africa. From Asia, we flew into Nairobi and spent a few days acquainting ourselves with the city that would be our home for almost a month after hiking Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Kenya is not a cheap country to visit, especially if you hope to go on a safari. Most of the tourist attractions require bus or taxi transportation and USD$50+ entry fees per person are not uncommon. In Mombasa and Naivasha, there are some budget alternatives to expensive safaris. You will be able to get up close and personal with Africa’s wildlife without burning a hole in your wallet. My overall impression of Kenya is that it is a comfortable and relatively safe country, with a decent long-distance bus system. Just be prepared to pay western prices for western goods and services.
